Some Fun!

We had a fun project today; the children decorated their "Summer Treasure Boxes".  They had fun adding paper, craft sticks, paint, glitter, and stickers to boxes that they will use to save any treasures that they collect this summer.  The boxes are perfect for seashells, pebbles, and postcards they might gather on vacation.  I tried to photograph them informally but as you can see from the rest of the photos, there was a lot of "photo-bombing" going on. :-)

In Math we finished up our measurement unit and continued with our geometry unit.  We will not have a formal test on chapter 12, I am using performance assessments.

The students are enjoying listening to Young Canaller by Gerry Stafford.  It is about life on the canal in Lockport, 1831.  We are discussing the contrast between life in Lockport then and now.
We had a nice surprise during our Math lesson on Thursday- Dr. Fike showed up at the door with cups of sherbet courtesy of Mr. Will from the cafeteria and Dr. Fike.  Thank you- if was a cool treat (and we since we were learning about 3-D shapes, we noticed it was shaped like a cylinder)!

Don't forget- next week the students can dress in gym uniforms all week long.
