Reading!

We have had a very busy PARP month.  I saw many of my friends at DeSales Reading Night.  Everyone had a good time playing reading games and eating pizza and Cat in the Hat cookies.  We were so excited to have the author Peg Thomas come in and talk to the school.

Ms. Thomas talked about her books, read Snow Dance to us, and called students up to illustrate the many steps it takes to publish a book.  Snow Dance is about a little girl who gets everyone in the school doing a dance and chant so they could have a day off of school.  We tried the dance and we did get snow, but not enough!

A grandmother of one of our students came in to read one of her favorite childhood books, Madeline.  She brought a doll with her and even showed us the appendix scar that each of the Madeline dolls have because, in the story, she had her appendix out.  The children loved listening to this favorite classic, as did I .  If any other parent or grandparent would like to come in to read, just let me know.

We worked on a simple art project for Easter which symbolizes Jesus overcoming death and rising again.

The children made their own dioramas and acted out the Easter story with a partner.

Was I surprised to see our classroom the morning of my birthday!  Thank you so much for the wonderful birthday wishes and especially thank you to our room mothers who sneaked in to decorate the night before.

The students have been working on their "Best School Day Ever" books for the past few weeks.  We voted on our favorite ideas and next week we will implement them.  The class voted for: Morning Work- paint and color, Math- graph, Reading- perform a play, Science- learn more about Space, Religion- learn about Jesus, and Recess- a Lego party.  It should be a fun day!

On Monday we will be welcoming back a student who has moved back to the area.  The students made a big banner for the door to make her feel welcome.  I don't use names on my blog so just ask your child who it is- everyone is excited!

Please join us for "Challenge for Charity" on Monday night in the gym.  The teachers will take on the eighth graders in volleyball and basketball.  It should be a fun night!
